See the Good. Be the Good.

This image is inspired by one of my favorite pieces of décor hanging in my home. It offers two reminders in one.

The first is to believe there is good in the world. In fact, there is a great deal of good in the world. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult to see because the bad so often takes center stage.

There is no news story when life is going swimmingly, is there? And yet, that is where so much of the good can be found—in the quiet moments of everyday life. It is in the good deeds, the pleasant exchanges between strangers, neighbors helping one another, and friends offering their love and support.

We may simply have to make a more conscious effort to notice it. When we intentionally look for the good, we begin to recognize just how much of it is happening all around us.

The second reminder is to be the good.

These words remind me that I play a part in either the positivity or the negativity in the world. This awareness helps me recognize that, through my own thoughts, words, and actions, I have the power to contribute to what is good—or to add to what is not.

I certainly cannot say that I have mastered this. But I love the idea that my life can contribute to the good in the world, even quietly, through the small choices I make each day.

I hope this reflection helps you become more aware of the goodness around you—and of your own actions. May it also remind you of the affirming truth that you, too, have the power to contribute to the good in our world.

Affirmation

I choose to see the good around me and to be a source of good through my thoughts, words, and actions.
