Learning to Trust the Process of Life

Years ago, I made a commitment to “trust in the process of life.” Over time, this practice has deepened my understanding of what it truly means to trust.

By definition, trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. It is not something we do halfway or selectively; trust must be wholehearted. So what does it mean to fully trust in the process of life?

For me, it begins with the realization that, on a spiritual level, we live in a benevolent universe. Albert Einstein posed what he considered the most important question: “Do you believe we live in a benevolent universe?” After years of self-study and spiritual inquiry, my answer is a resounding yes.

If we believe in a benevolent universe, we must also believe that life is unfolding in a way that supports us, even when challenges arise. The experiences we encounter—both joyful and difficult—are opportunities for growth and evolution. Trusting selectively, choosing to embrace the good but reject the bad, isn’t true trust. Trust requires us to accept life in its entirety, believing that even the hard-to-understand moments have purpose.

This realization has been a cornerstone of my practice. During challenging times, I have repeatedly asked myself: “What is your commitment? What does trust mean to you?” Each time, I’ve chosen trust, and this choice has transformed my life in profound ways.

I often use the affirmation: “I trust in the process of life.” To this, I add: “Divine intelligence guides me in making the right decisions throughout this day.” Then I release it. I let go of overthinking, uncertainty, doubt, and indecision. In surrendering these burdens, I allow the flow of life to guide me.

The more we trust in the process of life, the more our lives begin to resemble a river cleared of obstructions—free, powerful, and full of vitality. Trust transforms that flow into a torrent of energy, unrestricted and alive.

This practice requires mindfulness, patience, and, of course, trust. But the beauty of it is that it’s never too late to begin—no matter your age or circumstances.

With Gratitude & Grace,
